Today we had a great workshop following up from our learning a couple of weeks ago about solar power and our own solar panels here at Eastern Hutt. We had a range of solar power toys and gadgets including cars, an all-in-one 'robot' kit and a solar powered cooker. Despite our best efforts we had very little success getting them up and running, due to a very cloud covered sky.
We tried 'topping up' the sun with torches ... Zach and Tony persevered and use the reflective dish from the solar cooker and a torch together to get the car going. It flipped right over!
We also started thinking about how to promote our group and what we do. We are putting together a presentation board for our Centenary and are hoping that our younger schoolmates will be interested and apply to be Schoolgen SolarKids next year.
During our session we had a visit from a Hutt News Reporter. She asked lots of interesting questions and it provided a great opportunity to reflect about what we're doing here at our school to promote energy efficiency and sustainability. We have lots of neat ideas to follow up in term 4...
